Two medical laboratory technologists from Port Moresby General Hospital are engaged at the new Malaria Centre to run tests of blood samples from Kiriwina in Milne Bay.
These blood samples were taken during pilot project spearheaded by a team from the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine for mass drug administration from March to May in Kiriwina.
Technologist Henry Moi said yesterday that five of them were engaged under an agreement.
“About 2000 blood samples were brought to the centre from Kiriwina in September,” he said.
“So far, out of all the 2000 blood samples we tested, none were positive.”
Guangzhou research assistant Dr Li Ming told The National that the centre would be open to the public next year.
