A TEENAGED girl and three others on their way to watch a football match were injured when a vehicle hit them, police say.
Jiwaka police commander Chief Inspector Horim Piamia said that a soldier and a police officer in uniform inside the vehicle were allegedly drunk.
He said the two had tried to force their way into Minj Oval to watch the game but were stopped by security officers.
An argument followed.
“Bystanders threw stones and sticks at the vehicle because of the commotion. They (soldier and police officer) drove away at high speed to escape. The vehicle hit the four people,” Piamia said.
The 14-year-old girl, two men and a woman aged between 35 and 40 were treated at Kudjip Hospital in Mt Hagen.
The soldier is from Jiwaka. The police officer too is from Jiwaka but was based at the Mt Hagen police station at the time.
“He has been identified and will be arrested soon,” Piamia said.
