TEENAGER Roberta Peter from Jiwaka is over the moon after winning K500 worth of school stationery in the back-to-school flag competition.
Peter, 19, is the winner in Mt Hagen of the competition run by The National, and supported by the United States Embassy in Port Moresby.
Peter, from Kanjip village in Jiwaka, said the stationery would greatly help in her studies at the Institute of Flexible Learning in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
“I was happy when I saw my name in the newspaper.
“This stationery suits my needs because it will help me a lot with my studies,” Peter said.
She said writing materials were getting more expensive and her win was a “big relief” for her and her parents.
“This is a bonus to me and it is a great help because I could have been spending more money on stationery alone,” she said.
Peter thanked The National and the US Embassy in Port Moresby for sponsoring items in the gift pack.
“My encouragement to the students is that they have to try and get involved in such competitions and make use of the potential they have,” she said.
