Teens in court over marijuana

TWO teenagers are among eight people charged with possession of dangerous drug (30kg of marijuana), says Lae Met Supt Chief Insp Chris Kunyanban.
Police report said the eight appeared in the Lae District Court last Wednesday.
One pleaded guilty and the other seven not guilty. The case was adjourned to July 15.
Police, in making a break-through on the case, arrested two teenagers along Morobe Avenue on June 22.
Chief Insp Kunyanban said 5kg of marijuana was found in the possession of the two.
That led to the arrest of a group of six along Markham Road at Raun Wara where more than K1,000 was recovered.
Later in the afternoon, police, acting on a text message from a phone belonging to one of those arrested, retrieved more packs of the drug at 9-Mile Hillside settlement.
Police said the suspect at the Hillside settlement was still at large.
They claimed the gang was planning on transporting the drug to Kimbe in West New Britain.
Police said the street value of the drug confiscated was more than K50,000 and would fetch more in West New Britain and elsewhere in PNG.
“I would like to commend police in Lae for a job well-done in arresting and charging the suspects and the warning to those who want to involve in such illegal trade, police will still catch up with you one day,” Chief Insp Kunyanban said.
