Tei acts as highlands division boss

POLICE in the highlands will have a new divisional commander from today.
Chief Supt Teddy Tei, who was the Southern Highlands police commander, will be the acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (highlands).
Tei replaces ACP Simon Kauba, who has been elevated to deputy commissioner (operations).
The appointments were made after the National Executive Council confirmed Tom Kulunga as Commissioner last month.
Tei, who has served the police force for 26 years, commences duties as acting ACP highlands after serving Southern Highlands for the last two years.
From Bukapena in Mul district, Western Highlands, Tei has almost 12 years of experience in the management level of the police force.
He began as the Oro provincial police commander for five and a half years, and later transferred to Enga for two years.
He was then posted to Eastern Highlands for one and a half years, again as PPC, before being sent to Mt Hagen to be attached with the highlands divisional command for 10 months.
He then took up the post in Southern Highlands as police chief and led the police to steer the province to stability during a peak time when investor confidence was crucial as early work on the rich Liquefied Natural Gas project was underway.
One of these included the enforcement of the total liquor ban in the province, which continues for an indefinite period.
Tei will be acting on the position until ACP Islands, Thomas Eluh, takes over.
Tei will be replaced by Mendi police station commander, Chief Insp Sibron Papoto.
It is understood that decisions on such changes within the police force and will be announced soon.
