ACTING Assistant Commissioner of Police (Highlands) Teddy Tei has called on people in the region to make the festive season a peaceful one.
He appealed to the people to stay out of trouble, respect fellow citizens and be mindful of their activities during the festive season.
He said the festive period was a time when road accidents, drunken brawls, drinking sprees and overloading of vehicles were common.
“Whatever you are doing, be cautious, have respect for others, no drink driving, and look after your life,” he said.
He said people had to be mindful that they had only one life and had to guard it well, unlike vehicles, which had spare parts and could be repaired if damaged.
He said it was traditional to celebrate during the festive season, but this had to be done with reason and value for one’s life because simple mistakes often led to losses.
He said that police in the region had already begun Christmas and New Year operations to ensure the period was trouble-free.
He said each province had its own programmes lined out and some had started with the-mini operations that would lead up to the major operations at the peak of the festive season.
He did not say what activities police would be undertaking but the operations would continue until the first week of January.
It is understood that police will be monitoring the movement of people and will be out in force to ensure that the festive season is not marred by lawless activities of some.
