Telikom back
THE National Capital District Volleyball Association welcomes the return of one of the foundation clubs, Telikom, back from Fairfax Association this weekend.
They were one of the six pioneer clubs – Elcom, Raukele, University, NCDC and Hoods – who broke away from Port Moresby volleyball Association and formed NCD volleyball Association in 1992 after the 1991 South Pacific Games in PNG.
Later though the club drifted off to the Fairfax competition and has only decided to return to the NCD Volleyball Association this season.
The club is now registered and a financial member of the NCD Volleyball Association.
On the second weekend at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, Jamas will be aiming to repeat their success over Scorpions last round against reigning premiers, Vanama.
The defending champions were not at their best last weekend without George David and Jason Nauga will need to step up against Jamas, who are on fire, or they could be blown off the court.
Ela Motors will be put to test by Telikom, Scorpions should tame Strive Stars and bounce back into the winners circle while U-Mi Yet are tipped to overcome Vailima and the game between Laudanu and One Six Pawa should be an entertaining one given both side’s form.
In the women’s premier division, Strive Stars, after their upset win over Laudanu last weekend, will be in high spirits going into their match against 2015 grand finalists, Scorpions.
Jamas must improve their strike rate and add to their structured play it gain an upper hand over reigning queens, Vanama.
The defending champions did not show the form that won them the title last year in the previous round and must up their tempo to match other teams who started on a high level last weekend.
U-Mi Yet face Vailima and Ela motors will have a hard time containing Telikom in the last women’s premier clashes.
