NATIONAL telecommunication company, Telikom PNGZ Limited lived up to its motto, Always There when it rescued the sponsorship-starved Moresby South Rugby League competition at Kaugere, National Capital District, with K5,000 sponsorship recently.
The sponsorship covers the purchasing of the trophies and the prize-money for the minor premiers and champion teams for 2010 season.
Telikom PNG managing director and local Kaugere boy, Peter Loko, and his head of commercial Xavier Victor present ed the prize money and trophies to the minor premiers at Kaugere Oval on Sunday.
Seagulls under the guidance of Port Moresby DCA five-eighth Koivi Pirika and Wests wonderboy Vicky Moses scooped the doubles in both the A and B grades, while the Bombers collected the K200 and shield for being the minor premiers in the U19 division. The A grade winners picked up K500 plus the shield and B grade K300 and the shield.
Victor said Telikom PNG Limited, as the nationally-owned company, had a social obligation to assist local communities and the company was proud to extend such assistance to Moresby South Rugby League competition.
Moresby South RFL president Ben Nime expressed his appreciation to Mr Loko and Telikom PNG Limited for their foresight in assisting under-privileged youths in Kaugere.
Nime said he was disappointed with the NCDC for turning a deaf ear to their request for sponsorship, and was thankful that Telikom PNG Ltd step forward to assist them.
