DISPLACED islanders from Kadovar have received 50 bags of clothing, food and toiletries – thanks to Telikom Foundation.
The foundation launched a donation box earlier in the year following the volcanic eruption on Kadovar Island to assist the more than 690 people affected.
The team travelled by road for about an hour to Turubu local level government area, where the road ends, then took a boat with all the supplies for another 20 minutes to the Dandan care centre.
Telikom Foundation coordinator Yolanda Bafmatuk told the islanders: “We brought what we could bring, what we think is needed in terms of food rations and other essentials.
“We are using this opportunity also to see how we may assist further.”
East Sepik administrator Dr Clement Malau received reports of the challenges the islanders faced with life on the mainland.
The foundation acknowledged the help of Kumul Telikom Holdings Ltd, Kumul Consolidated Holdings, Badili Second Hand, Paradise Foods Limited, Air Niugini and East Sepik Provincial Government .
