THE Telikom Foundation recently supplied Kubuna Primary School in the Kuni LLG of Central with library books.
The foundation, with its commitment to promote literacy for all children in Papua New Guinea through ICT enabled solutions, donated 10 boxes of library books as a surprise Christmas present.
Telikom Foundation’s Steven Kia said reading and writing skills were basic for one to learn and grow in these fast changing times.
And the Telikom Foundation was committed to ensuring that young children had access to such learning material.
“Education and leaning should not be confined to the classroom but should be explored through books,” Kia said.
Headmaster Camillo Aisa thanked the Foundation for the gesture.
He said the students needed a variety of books to expand their knowledge and was impressed that a corporate organisation such as Telikom PNG had found the time to help a remote community like Kubuna.
“In the absence of the internet in this remote corner of the world, books are the next best option and we are thankful for the foundation to have identified that need,” Aisa said.
Kubuna Primary School is part of the Kubuna Catholic Mission. The school has five teachers, with a student population of 100. The school serves a community of more than 2,000 people comprising seven villages – Dua, Idoido, Adio, Madava, Foio, Dilava and Fofou.
