TELIKOM PNG has introduced short messaging service (SMS) as the new feature on the X’cess wireless telephone.
Telikom chief executive officer Peter Loko said the SMS feature is the same as the mobile SMS.
He said currently the SMS service is only available on Telikom’s network, but the public will be advised once negotiations with the two mobile companies (bemobile and Digicel) are completed.
Mr Loko said the current charge for sending SMS using the wireless service is 3 toea for peak and off-peak.
Other features available on the wireless service are, credit transfer and credit top-up for data and voice accounts using 1255.
Also at the launch, Mr Loko announced another product called the close user group.
This allows for a group with a common interest or within a set location to contact each other through voice at either reduced call rates or no costs at all.
