TELIKOM beat competition leaders Ela Motors 3-1 and knocked them off the top spot on the competition ladder in the NCD Volleyball Association women’s premier division at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre on Saturday.
The former glamour team, Telikom had their usual line-up of Madia Hairai, Kemmy Manoni, Bibiana Poloa, Jynar Bernard, Mera Kila, Mime Temo and Alice Ito — who put in one of their best performances of the season for the win.
Ela Motors looked solid with Emily Bae, Hitolo Raka and Veuga Amoa going spike for spike with Telikom at the net and took the first set 25-20.
But their intensity level dropped off in the second set when Telikom applied pressure and they were forced to make a tactical move to switch utility, Veuga, from hitting to setting — a move which backfired on them.
This weakened Ela Motor’s offence and as a result Emily and Hitolo struggled to contain Telikom’s missiles that were delivered from all over the court.
Telikom quickly took that advantage and hammered the spikes and won the next three sets and the match 3-1.
