Telikom needs to change to step up to next level
The National, Friday February 12th, 2016
I AM pleased to see that Telikom PNG is going through its restructure. As a citizen of this wonderful nation, I believe that such structural changes within the organisations are good.
We know that Telikom is a sleeping giant in the ICT and communication industry and believe such changes are good as Telikom PNG need to cope up with the current technological changes, and compete with its competitors in the market.
Telikom has more than 1000 plus employees and I believe after its restructure the number of employees will be reduced.
I believe that Telikom trade union members are also trying to stop this restructure as it will affect its employees.
Union officials need to work together with current management as such changes are good.
Telikom needs new people with new skills and knowledge to bring the company forward.
The union does not need to go to media and make negative comments against what the management is doing.
Telikom PNG is also grooming young graduates with high calibre and I am proud of that.
We the ageing staff must know that is not our private company but a state owned entity.
I was therefore proud to see young human resources graduates recruited under the Telikom graduate programme taking bold steps and involved in recruitment especially with the interviews for Spill & Fill.
I was also proud to see Ms Kati and Gibson Kepao involved in the interview process. I like the way Kepao and other graduates they approached people. He has respect for everyone including the cleaners and security guards.
Let’s take Telikom PNG to the next level. The graduates should be given more training to equip them with new skill and knowledge.
The union management needs to address issues such as wages and housing so that the management make improvements in those areas.
Telikom need to use its vacant lands to build houses for its employees and renovate its existing houses and flats.
To all the retrenched staff, this is not the end of our life. There are so many good opportunities out there.
Let us all be proud that we did our part and bring Telikom PNG to the next level.
