TELIKOM has fully restored services to businesses in Waigani and Gerehu that were disrupted on Tuesday from damaged cables.

The two fibre cables were damaged after government contractor Huawei Technologies, which was working in the area along Waigani Drive, caused severe damages to the cables that services major corporate entities such as Bank South Pacific, Moni Plus and Daltron. The damaged cables also disrupted services to Parliament House.

Telikom PNG said in a statement yesterday that a substantial number of corporate entities, government departments, institutions and non-governmental organisations in these areas experienced disruptions.

“Swift attendance to the outage had Telikom PNG’s technical officers working round the clock despite heavy showers to restore some services last night while all other services were restored at around 10am,” Telikom said.

The day-to-day activities and business operations rely heavily on telecommunication services and Telikom PNG’s swift restoration of services has come as a relief for many in these affected areas.

Telikom head of access network Moses Tedumo warned government contractors and non-government contractors to advise his department on telephone 300 5360 or fax 325 9582 prior to any contractual works crossing Telikom’s network nationwide.
