TELIKOM PNG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Goroka to modernise networking construction.

Telikom PNG and UoG will facilitate the delivery of high-speed internet access, hot spot for wireless and video conferencing for the institution.

UoG Vice-Chancellor Prof Gairo Onagi thanked Telikom PNG for the opportunity to work together.

He said UoG had embarked on a K2 million project related to software where all data and learning would be taken care of.

“We cannot go past Telikom because it is our national company and we cannot do it alone unless Telikom helps us,” he said.

Onagi said the university was trying to make use of the K500 million approved by the National Executive Council for universities to create better learning opportunities for students.

“We want to invest it in learning and that is where Telikom comes in to help.”

Telikom’s chief executive officer Charles Litau told Onagi that they would do something within three months.

He said they could provide Wifi access for the new dormitories for female students and will look at reducing the cost of internet service.
