TELSTARS played with purpose and control to beat the Sparrows 41-37 in the premier division of the Port Moresby Netball Association competition at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex on Saturday.
Both sides were confident of pulling through but Telstars had the final say to keep their unbeaten run intact.
Telstars’ form is reward for the efforts of founder Veitu Diro and head coach Eva Aua Sr in working tirelessly to develop their young players.
However, they were never short of support from their old hands throughout the match, which resulted in a morale-boosting win for the side.
It was and outstanding team effort coupled with good ball control, which saw Telstars attacking well from the mid-court with centre Athalia Kila up against Papua New Guinea Pepe Nerrie Adula.
It was a neck-and-neck affair but Telstars managed to make the most of their opportunities through Eva Aua and veteran Gamini Koroka.
Sparrows shooter Mary Leka Jr had her fair share of opportunities but was defended well throughout the four-quarter fixture.
In the other matches, Mermaids beat Veupunama 56-45 and Rebels defeated Paramana 58-34.
After round seven, Telstars remain unbeaten and followed by Sparrows, Mermaids, Veupunama, Rebels, Paramana and Aroma Coast Plus in that order.
With competition frontrunner Telstars and Sparrows cementing their spots, the race is wide open for third and fourth as Mermaids, Veupunama and Rebels look to step up.
