COMPETITION leaders Esco Telstars continued their super run in the premier netball fixtures in Port Moresby, with good victories as the competition entered game two of the second round last week.
Port Moresby had to play two matches last Saturday and Sunday to catch up with their games.
Port Moresby Netball Association president Eva Kini and her deputy Annie Iammo confirmed Sunday’s matches were for the fixtures washed out on June 23.
Last Saturday, Telstars scored an impressive 54-27 victory over Aroma Coast and on Sunday picked up an easy competition point without sweating on forfeit after Veupunama failed to field a team.
Telstars veteran coach Veitu Diro said she was surprised that Veupunama did not turn up as Telstars were looking forward to a good match.
“Our girls were warming up only to find out that there were no opponents to play against,” she said.
In the other matches, Rebels led by sisters, Lua Mavara-Rikis and Winnie Mavara, back from the Pacific Netball Series, inspired their team to a convincing victory over Sparrows 63-43.
Rebels continued their fine form on Sunday, to defeat Aroma Coast 51-35. Sparrows suffered a double blow on the weekend, losing to Rebels last Saturday 63-43 and on Sunday, they fell to Paramana 42-36.
At the completion of two weekends’ matches, Telstars now lead the competition ladder with 22 points are closely followed by Rebels on 20, Mermaids on 15, Paramana 14, Sparrows 10, Veupunama 6 and Aroma Coast on 6.
Kini commended BNG Trading, which through its Rexona, donated 35 T-shirts to netball umpires.
The umpires will be flying the BNG Trading flag during the 2012 PNG Games in Kokopo, East New Britain.
