THE country faces a huge potential for economic prosperity and social advancement and the demand today is in leadership, Public Service Minister Sir Puka Temu says.

He was addressing public servants at the opening of the New Guinea Islands consultative workshop on leadership, human resource management, financial management, procurement and project management yesterday in Kokopo, East New Britain.

“With God-blessed natural resources, fisheries and agriculture sector there is enormous potential for greater economic prosperity and social advancement and the demand today is leadership,” he said.

He said these times demanded a rise in leadership both in politics and bureaucracy.

“As you go through this two-day workshop, I want you to remember those unfortunate children. They are asking us on how we can do better as a nation.

“I will not look elsewhere as no government worldwide can do without the public service machinery and that is why we are here today in this workshop.

“But this does not mean we will let our guard down as we move in the direction of our goal post – Vision 2050,” he said.
