THE Government through the Department of Health has opened a new laboratory to test the quality and standard of medicines and pharmaceutical supplies coming into the country.
During the commissioning of the laboratory in Port Moresby yesterday, Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Sir Puka Temu said the new Medicines Quality Control Laboratory was the first ever in the country and a milestone achievement for the department, the Government and the people of PNG.
“This is a significant achievement for our people and our country because this will now clear the clouds in the minds of our people and our government on whether we purchase and receive quality medicines or fake ones that do not meet world standards.
“I will work very hard with our partners to make sure we achieve the World Health Organisation pre-qualification accreditation.
“There is only one standard in medicine and that is global standard.”
