Tender for Apec vehicles on hold, recovery underway

National

THE Apec vehicle tender process has been put on hold yet again to recover the 148 vehicles that are still “outstanding”, says Finance and Rural Development Minister Rainbo Paita.
Paita told The National that the vehicles, some of them luxury ones, were put on tender through the normal National Procurement Commission process but was held.
“So far, no Apec vehicles have been sold,” Paita said.
“Only one Maserati was given to the Governor-General’s Office as the representative of the Queen in the country.” Paita said more than 300 vehicles were bought by the Government for Apec and a good number were donated by partners.
“As I mentioned earlier, 111 vehicles will be given to districts across the country.
“And once we have recovered the 148 vehicles that are still outstanding, then we will start the tender process again.”
Paita also clarify that the cars given to the districts was for the office and not given to individuals.
“The same applies to the Maserati given to the Governor-General’s Office.
“It was not given to the governor-general but to the office he occupies and it remains State property.”

  • Instead of auctioning what vehicles they have; some silly official thinks it’s financially better to wait until every vehicle has been recovered. Allowing those they have found to rust and devalue thus providing a smaller economic return for the state.
