A YOUNG man from Tari, Hela, is fighting for his life at the Port Moresby General Hospital after being badly beaten at 8-Mile outside Port Moresby.

The man, identified as Timothy Arthur in his mid-20s, was returning from his normal rounds as a taxi driver between 2am and 3am yesterday when he was stopped by some men who blocked the road.

They took him out of the vehicle and beat him up. They also damaged the taxi.

He was saved by another man and taken to the hospital.

The attackers, believed to be from Nipa, Southern Highlands, fled the scene of the incident.

Arthur’s relatives, upon hearing of his ordeal, ransacked properties belonging to his alleged attackers but police intervened.

A meeting was held by leaders of the two groups and Arthur’s relatives have asked for the suspects to be apprehended and handed over to police.

The situation is still tense at 8-Mile but attempts to get police to give further details of the incident were unsuccessful yesterday.
