CONTROLLING the importation of used vehicles into the country is one solution to alleviate traffic jams in the cities, Road Transport Authority chief executive Nelson Terema says. “Effective inspections on the road and the removal of vehicles that are unfit will give space to road worthy vehicles,” Terema said.
“Then we will align whatever is on the road whether it is taxis and PMVs (Public Motor Vehicles).”
Terema said his office was doing other things to regulate the number of cars and safety on the roads by controlling the inspection of Vehicles Compliances Standard Rules (VCSR) and checking car dealers licensing and driver licencing.
Meanwhile, Terema said the Government had not allocated any funds to the Road Transport Authority.
He said the funds used to run their office were taken from the Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited through fee collection.
He said they were looking at implementing revenue generating programmes to help meet expenses.
