Termination of NWS staff committee against law

the termination of members of the National Weather Service staff working committee is an infringement of the employees’ rights, says Public Employees’ Association general secretary Peter Toggs.
The Transport Department has ruled the strike illegal and terminated three members of the service’s working committee.
“The department has penalised workers for exercising their rights,” Toggs said.
“The management can terminate the workers on any other reasons but not on the grounds of the employees fighting for their rights.”
The 65 national weather staff nationwide went on strike on
April 6 over their salary transfer to the mainstream public service salary structure.
Toggs said a 21 days notice was issued to the Transport Department on March 16 but the department still viewed the strike illegal.
Toggs said the workers have exercised their rights and there is nothing illegal about that.
Meanwhile, striking staff have agreed to return to work.
NWS working committee Albert Walongor said the staff have resolved to resume duties with advice from the Public Employees Association.
They resumed operations as of last night on the basis that some of the staff have already seen their salaries translated.
Walongor said they will wait for the association to take on negotiations on their behalf and ensure that all staff are properly transferred to the public service pay rates.
He said it was also to ensure that the K1.7 million released by the Treasury Department is paid to them transparently and in full.
They apologised to the general public for any inconveniences caused during the strike.
