Tertiary institutions not included, says Tabar

The National, Tuesday July 12th, 2016

TERTIARY institutions in Papau New Guinea have never been included in international rating, Minister for Higher Education Research Science and Technology Malakai Tabar said in Kokopo on Saturday.
He said the University of PNG, although internationally recognised and had international standards, was among  institutions in the country that had never been included in the international rating.
He said this was according to an academic audit done in 2013.
Tabar said he had pushed during the last Apec meet in Manila for PNG tertiary institutions to be included in the regional qualification framework.
“We are still not included in the  framework because we have not met international standards,” he said.
Tabar said it was important for students, parents and relevant stakeholders to take note of the issue.
He said it was important for all institutions in the country to strive to be internationally recognised and to meet international standards.
