Tewai-Siassi district budgets K1 million to build roofing iron factory

THE Tewai-Siassi district in Morobe has set aside K1 million to build a roofing iron factory that will supply roofing iron sheets to its people.
The district development authority (DDA) met recently and set aside the money from its services improvement programme funding to build the factory. MP and authority chairman Dr Kobby Bomareo said the factory would process roofing iron and sell it to the people at an affordable price.
“The facility will be built at Wasu,” Bomareo said. “It will produce and sell roofing irons at price, not exceeding K20 per sheet.
“The money made from the sales is not for profit but for the sustenance of the project.”
He said the factory was expected to be completed before the fourth quarter of the year with production to begin after the construction.
Bomareo said the district already funded the Wasu local level government council chamber with K4 million, the K1.2 million district court house, a new cut road connecting inland Sialum to the coast, upgrading of Sialum roads from Masaweng to Kwaling, maintenance and upgrade of Wasu roads and peace and reconciliation processes for Siassi and Sialum LLGs.
He said in the agriculture sector the district has bought a first batch of 50,000 cocoa seedlings to distribute to farmers.
The cocoa seedlings were clonal varieties and are resistant to pests and disease.
