A DELEGATION from Thailand’s ministry of foreign affairs was in Lae recently on a business and trade investment visit.
The three-man team headed by director of South Pacific affairs divison of Thailand’s ministry of foreign affairs Chulvat Naringthrangura, visited a number of Thai businesses in Lae.
The delegation was in Lae from Aug 3-5.
The highlight of the visit was to meet the fastest-growing rice distributor in the country, Homestate Ltd, owned by longtime Thai businessman Tony Wetwattana.
The delegation was impressed with how Homestate was importing, processing and selling Thai rice in the country.
Naringthrangur told Wetwattana that the Thai government would continue to support the work of Homestate as a key part of its strategic relations with PNG.
Chulvat said Lae was strategically located and there was more room for Thai investors.
Wetwattana was pleased that the officials visited him and found out about how he was operating.
He said his company had been in the country for more than 20 years and had been providing good quality rice at affordable prices to PNG people.
Wetwattana said the visit was a “morale-booster” for his company and other Thai businesses operating in the country.
