Thank you Miss Wallis and Futuna

Letters

I AM a Wallis and Tarawai Islander in East Sepik and take this opportunity to congratulate Miss Wallis and Futuna for representing your beautiful island country during the 2019 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant contest in PNG.
I was humbled to see the name Wallis bearing on your formal and traditional dressing during the presentation on stage.
When I saw the name Wallis on your dressing, as if though was representing the name of my home Wallis Island in Wewak in East Sepik.
It was indeed a happy moment for us to see the name on such important occasion.
Historically, on April 26 1616, Captain Samuel Wallis, after discovering and naming Wallis, Tarawa and other group of islands in the South Pacific, set sailed from Pacific Ocean through Bismarck Sea and landed on the shores of Volifu and Tandany islands in East Sepik.
After exploring the islands and saw their similarities in nature of beauty and tranquility to that of Wallis and Tarawa islands, he named the sister islands as Wallis and Tarawa.
The islands are known as Wallis and Tarawai islands.
The names also reflect the history were originated from Wallis and Tarawa from the South Pacific.
Miss Wallis and Futuna, though you may have had unfortunate experience during the presentation on the Pageant contest, you are still young and there are future opportunities for you ahead.
Thank you for carrying the name of Wallis as we Islanders of Wallis and Tarawai Islands are proud of you and the people of Wallis and Futuna.
