PACIFIC Games powerlifting champion Linda Pulsan has thanked the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee and SP Brewery Limited for sponsoring her.

She thanked her supporters for giving her the moral support she needed to win gold.

The 45-year-old powerlifter won gold for the country in the 72kg squat last Friday with a lift of 183.5 kg in what was a powerlifting masters world record, which she failed to lift at the World Championships in Finland last month.

Pulsan, from Manus, started powerlifting when she was 32. “I made up my mind to join powerlifting when I saw the PNG athletes going for the Pacific Games in 2003,” she said.

“I started practicing since that year.”

The mother of two had her first taste of Pacific Games in 2007 in Samoa, competing in in 67kg category. She won the gold medal.

She had a second Pacific Games in 2011 in New Caledonia where she competed in the 72kg and won gold again.

This is her third time in the Pacific Games and she was happy because it happened at home country. She defended her title and won gold in 72kgthe .

Pulsan, who has been lifting for 12 years, could not let a visitor  to her country take the gold from her.

“It is my home ground and I tried my best to win gold.

“I don’t want other countries to win that gold on my home ground,” she said.

The three-time Pacific Games powerlifting champion was sponsored by SP Brewery and the PNGOC to train in the Gold Coast, Australia, in preparation for the Pacific Games.

All her hard work and training paid off handsomely last Friday.
