The ‘Flash’ Garap eyes world title

 THE sky is the limit for Muay Thai Kickboxer Lee “Flash” Garap who wants to have a crack at the Muay Thai title in Port Moresby on Aug 1.

The part Morobe and Simbu man wants to contest the world title in front of his home fans at the Sports Inn.

Garap will take on Thailand’s World Kick Boxing Federation welterweight (64.5kg) titleholder Rangsan Poonsang. The defending champion, Poonsang, has some 480 fights under his belt compared to Garap who only has 90 fights.

Apart from the WKBF title fight, there will be four under-card bouts.

The fight’s promoter is Glen Armstrong of Air Niugini. 

Garap has already linked up with Brisbane-based fighter Bruce “Preacher” MacFie, a multiple world and Australian national title holder.

Macfie, who is the co-owner and operator of Corporate Box Gymnasium in Brisbane, has been a great influence on Garap’s Muay Thai career as a trainer and mentor. He will assist Garap prepare for the title fight scheduled for next month.

Garap’s manager Jerry Sarufa said his fighter was seeking financial support from businesses and the government to help the 30-year-old realise his dream to fight for the world title.

“He has been training up to five hours a day, five days a week and is seriously gearing up for his big day.” Sarufa said.
