A man who pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Waigani District Court yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar however suspended three months of the sentence for the time Junior Kasi spent in custody, suspended the remaining nine months and put Kasi on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
Kasi, originally from Terokave in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, was charged with two counts of stealing three months ago.
He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for each offence – stealing a phone worth K1299 and mechanical and building tools worth K1500.
Kasi told the court that he was sorry for what he did and promised that he would not repeat the same mistake.
“A person is expected to know the consequences of his or her own actions,” Bidar told Kasi before sentencing him.
