Thieves make Gordon unsafe

Letters

I AM writing to express my concerns over the sudden increase in the number of thieves at Gordon bus stop and market, in Port Moresby.
I encountered three attacks almost consecutively within a week and at the same time too. I even witnessed a number of assaults and robberies.
I have noticed that most of these thieves are new faces at Gordon and are coming from other parts of the city, especially 4-Mile.
Because of Apec, security measures have tightened around the main city areas and as a result petty thieves have moved to Gordon.
Almost every morning and afternoon these petty thieves go around assaulting and robbing people in public.
I’ve seen young women, working people, mothers, fathers and village people selling products get robbed and left helpless in the street in Gordon.
Can Gordon’s police officer in charge do something?
This problem is getting worse.
