Thirty get certificate of citizenship

National

THE PNG Immigration and Citizenship Authority has given 30 individuals certificates of dual and naturalised citizenship.
Minister for Immigration and Border Security Petrus Thomas said the 30 had fulfilled all the mandatory requirements under Section 67 of the Constitution on residential qualification.
“You have your businesses established with respect to some characters embracing the culture and lifestyle of Papua New Guinea,” Thomas said.
“We note that most of you are investors who have lived in this country for a very long time.
“Others have contributed in different fields, professions and sports.
“Your continuous support and participation in and within Papua New Guinean communities are significant evidence of why I have decided to grant you citizenship status.
“To those of you who are under the category of the naturalised citizenship, to give up citizenship of your country of origin is a difficult one.
“I wholeheartedly commend you for this unique decision to start a new life with us here in PNG.
“For those in the dual citizenship category, let me also acknowledge you because you now have the privilege of two countries.”
