A MAN’s refusal to pay for fish he ate at a market in Madang has led to three deaths, six houses torched as tension remains high in Bogia.
This was according to Madang Police Commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang yesterday following the death of three men in Bogia.
Police said factions involved were from the Sepa and Mamboan villages. It is an ongoing landownership conflict dating back to pre-Independence days.
Rubiang identified the deceased as Glan Sawar (Sepa village), Felix Gatupe (Sepa village) and Felix Tapelo (Mamboan village).
Rubiang said on Jan 24, late Sawar while intoxicated went to Bogia market and took a fish from a female vendor without paying.
The vendor flagged down police who happened to be passing by.
Police chased Sawar who unfortunately ran towards Mamboan villagers and was killed.
Rubiang said four suspects in Sawar’s killing were in police custody.
Locals from Sepa blamed Bogia police for Sawar’s death and damaged a police vehicle.
Last Friday, Rubiang said Tapelo was travelling back to Mamboam from Lae when bus broke down at Lelau (near Sepa).
He was killed there at around 1pm.
When Mamboan villagers heard the news, they went to Sepa, burnt down six houses and killed Gatupe.

  • Bogia Land issue had gone for a long time. where are the leaders of Bogia district why cant they do something about it?. The ignorance of the former and current member had to be blamed with Manam restoration still at large. there has to be something done about them and fast. the number of deaths reported may be more then what appeared in the news paper.
