Three held over cop’s death

POLICE have arrested three suspects in relation to the brutal attack and killing of a senior constable in Edwaki, Telefomin, West Sepik.
It was alleged that the deceased and his colleague were attacked by a mob at a market and police issued firearms taken on Saturday.
Police Commissioner David Manning told The National that the suspects were all from Nawom village, Edwaki, in the Namea local level government.
Manning said: “I can also confirm the two police issued firearms have been recovered by police.
“The three men are now locked up at the police cell in Vanimo.
“Both firearms are now locked up at the armoury.
“I want to thank the local peace officer who persuaded the three men to surrender, and holding the rifle that was recovered with the trio, he took them to Utae and then brought them down to Vanimo with police assistance.
“The criminal investigation division unit in Vanimo will commence their record of interview to find out what happened.
“For now they are in police custody.”
The National understands that the trio, who have been named, were between the ages of 23 and 26. Police investigations continue.
