Three held over student’s death
The National, Friday 21st September 2012
POLICE have arrested three youths in relation to the death of a Grade 10 student at the Popondetta Secondary School compound on Tuesday.
The death was said to be sorcery-related.
Acting provincial police commander Snr Insp Noboya Zozowa said the three youths came to the school compound, stabbed the student, then fled.
“The stabbing and killing of a Grade 10 student occurred at about 9am in the school ground on Sept 18,” he said.
Speaking from Popondetta, Zozowa said the suspects were from Isivi Street in Popondetta.
He said Northern police pursued the suspects and told their parents to surrender them which they did.
“These suspects are now locked up in the Popondetta police cell pending interrogation.”
The student, an 18-year-old from Ondoro in Afore district, was stabbed on the back with a kitchen knife.
“The student fell to the ground.
“He was rushed to Popondetta General Hospital and was admitted at the emergency theatre,” Zozowa said.
He said the student died at 2pm.
Zozowa said it was alleged that the stabbing and killing was in retaliation to the death of a Grade 9 student a week earlier.
