Three in Lae charged with conspiracy and stealing

AN employee of Consum Tek (PNG) Ltd narrowly escaped death after three masked men armed with a factory-made gun attacked him at Wara Pipe, Tent Siti, in Lae, Morobe province.
And police have arrested three employees of the Rabtrade retail and wholesale company and charged them with two counts each of conspiracy and stealing.
The gunmen climbed over the fence of the University of Technology campus after seeing the company vehicle driving towards Telikom College from Tent Siti police station at 6pm on Monday.
The employee, a service manager who did not want to be named, said on seeing the three men, he sped and turned into Mailu Circle.
He said the gunman fired but fortunately only hit the rear windshield.
He reported the matter to police and asked them to monitor the area.
He had twice been targeted at the same spot.
The three suspects arrested were named as Billy Pirit, 25, from Onanami, in Kokopo, East New Britain; Simon Andrew, 26, from Kauwo village, Pangia, Southern Highlands, and Ontu Avu, 40, from Paiki in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
They are alleged to have conspired with a Malaysian man to steal K2,557.05 worth of Maggie noodles.
Lae police arrested and detained them on Monday.
They are expected to appear in Lae district court next week while investigations are continuing on the Malaysian man.
