Three in race for OFC top position

 OCEANIA Football Confederation (OFC) has confirmed three candidates for the position of president and the list of candidates for members of the executive committee for Saturday’s OFC general election.

The nominees for election of OFC president (2011-2014) are David Chung (PNG Football Association), Fred de Jong and Frank Van Hattum (New Zealand Football).

The 21st OFC ordinary congress will be in Pago Pago, American Samoa, on Saturday.

The nominations for the election of seven members of the OFC executive committee 2011-2014:  

. Martin Alufurai (Solomon Islands Football Federation);

. Thierry Ariiotima (Fédération Tahitienne de Football);

. Fred de Jong (New Zealand Football);

. Claude Fournier (Fédération Calédonienne de Football);

. Iuli Alex Godinet (Football Federation American Samoa);

. Lee Harmon (Cook Islands Football Association);

. Dr Sahu Khan (Fiji Football Association);

. Lambert Maltock (Vanuatu Football Federation);

. Toetu Petana (Football Federation Samoa); and

. Honourable Ve’ehala (Tonga Football Association)

FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter and FIFA secretary-general Jérôme Valcke are expected to join the OFC Football family in attending the occasion while celebrating with the Football Federation American Samoa as they mark the completion of phase 2 and 3 of the FIFA goal project in Pago Pago.

In accordance with the Statutes, each of the 11 full OFC member associations has one vote in the Congress and is entitled to be represented by two delegates. 

The elective congress will take place on Saturday morning with acting OFC president Chung presiding over the meeting. 

Shortly afterwards, the first OFC executive committee meeting for the 2011-2014 term will take place with the newly-elected president and seven executive members voting for a senior vice-president, vice-president and treasurer.
