A DRUNKARD claiming to be a law enforcer instigated a brawl that led to three innocent people being injured at the Lae Main Market, market coordinator Logi Kosing reported.
However, only one of them was hospitalised.
Kosing said the self-proclaimed city law enforcer had an argument with a man with disabilities who was selling cigarettes and started destroying the vendor’s goods.
“Other street vendors felt sorry for the disabled man and backed him and fought with the drunkard,” he said.
“Bystanders at the market bus stop backed the drunkard man and the brawl moved from the bus stop towards the market police station.
“A truck load of night shift security guards stopped  and a guard with a gun fired shots.”
Kosing said one of the guards with a knife injured his market security staff.
“The other market security guard was injured on his head and a guard was attacked when he fled the market yard,” Kosing said.
Lae Metro commander Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr  confirmed the incident but said only one injured man was admitted at Angau General Hospital’s emergency ward.
