Three judges take oath to serve PNG

THREE judges of the National and Supreme Courts were sworn in by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae in Port Moresby on Friday.
Justices Ere Kariko, John Richie Bernaud Kaumi and David Cannings took an oath to serve PNG by upholding its Constitution and serving without “fear, favour, affection or ill-will” Sir Bob in Port Moresby.
Justice Kariko and Justice Kaumi have a 10-year term and Justice Cannings for another three years.
Their reappointments were made on May 15 and Justice Minister and Attorney-General Alfred Manase, who is also the Judicial and Legal Services Commission chairman, said they were based on their own merit as they had fulfilled the requirements for substantive appointments.
Justice Kariko has vast background and experience in dealing with civil and criminal cases and is one of the most hardworking judges.
Justice Cannings was previously reappointed on June 24 2016 for a three-year term.
His contract ended last year and he was reappointed and sworn in to serve for another three years.
Manase described him as most hardworking judge who worked the longest hours to deliver judgements.
Justice Kaumi was reappointed acting judge on Dec 12 last year for 12 months, and had “given an outstanding performance.”
