DEPUTY Prime Minister Sir Puka Temu, chairman of the Rimbunan Hijau Group Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King and head of WR Carpenters (PNG and Fiji ) Dr  Morgan Lourdenadin were conferred with their knighthoods yesterday.
They received the award at the investiture ceremony at the Government House for the 100-plus recipients of the 2009 Queen’s Birthday honours.
Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane officiated at the investiture.
PNG Defence Force officer Col Vagi Oala received an  Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in the military division for services to the PNGDF.
Deputy Speaker for the Atonomous  Bougainville assembly Francesca Semoso was one of two women awarded an OBE but she was not present to receive her medal.
The other was Sister Peter Mary Kennedy for services to the Catholic church, education and religious formation of women. Among the guests that were present to witness the ceremony yesterday were Labour and Industrial Relations Minister Mark Maipakai and Culture, Arts and Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Charles Abel and members of the diplomatic corps.
