JV PNG Investment Construction (JVPNGIC) Ltd is repairing three major road sections in Lae.
They are the junction along Coronation Drive and Huon Road at Tusa Clinic, Bumbu Bridge connecting China Town and Butibam village and Bumbu Road towards Tidal Basin Wharf.
Motorists and the travelling public have been urged to take precautions when driving, especially at night.
According to JVPNGIC Ltd, the section at Tusa Clinic was completed and should be opened for public soon after a concrete curing period. Likewise, much of the maintenance at Bumbu Bridge has been completed.
The road should reopen to the public on Friday next week to allow smooth traffic flow for the festive season.
However, the two sides of Bumbu Bridge from China Town and Butibam, are awaiting concrete curing.
Therefore, traffic from Hunter, Malahang and Back Road has been diverted through Butibam village via Kamkumung.
Work on the Bumbu Road from Main Wharf to Tidal Basin Wharf was still continuing with one side open.
JVPNGIC Ltd said maintenance work at the Kamkumung Bridge would start on January 2.
In the meantime, traffic will detour along Butibam Road to Bumbu Bridge and China Town.
All traffic will be diverted to Bumbu Bridge during the 15-day closure of Kamkumung Bridge.
Motorist from Unitech, Igam, East and West Taraka and parts of Tent City and Bumayong will drive through Butibam village.
