LAE police have arrested three prime suspects in relation to the alleged rape and robbery of two female University of Technology school of nursing students within 48 hours after the incident.

Met Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr authorised swift investigations that resulted in the capture of the suspects at Banana settlement along Cassowary road near Bumbu river.

From interrogations police concluded that three of them were part of the gang of five that were involved in the crime.

“One of the suspects is known to police for a series of break and enter and stealing in and around Top Town and Cassowary road residential areas,” Wagambie said.

“Upon conducting searches in their houses, the prime suspect had in his possession the clothes that matched the description given by the victims.

“It was a woolen green camouflage coloured pull over and a pair of cut jeans.”

Police also found the spare key to room 6 of the girls’ dormitory.

“The three were identified by one of the victims,” he said.

“Two other suspects identity is known by police and I am confident that my team will make arrests soon.”
