THE New Guinea Islands Under-14s put on an unbeaten run at the Coca-Cola National Schools Rugby League Championships in Port Moresby yesterday.
NGI beat Southern 12-0, Highlands 4-0 and Northern 6-0 to end the championships with three straight wins.
They featured prominently because of the organised competition in the region, with East New Britain setting the foundation.
Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka and Southern Confederation director Gwaibo Mairi watched the matches at the National Football Stadium.
“This is the only way to develop and breed rising stars,” Mairi said.
“We thank Coca-Cola for sponsoring this programme.”
Meanwhile, Mairi has challenged Digicel Cup franchises based in Port Moresby to scout potential talent at the championships.
“These are the players who will set the benchmark with the attitude to represent PNG in the years to come,” he said.
