THREE Papua New Guineans will attend the Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific leaders meeting in Malaysia next week.
David Aoneka Lawrence, Ya namlyn Yana and Jennifer John will be among 200 leaders from 33 nations in the region who will meet in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 10 to 14.
The 200 leaders represent public, private and non-profit sectors.
Lawrence is the principal adviser for international relations at the National Youth Development Authority, a government agency responsible for the development of youths.
Yana is the campaign coordinator for the PNG Tribal Foundation, an organisation that develops models that are both meaningful and lasting to improve lives.
She believed that to build a nation, we should focus on building people first.
John is the programme manager for PNG Family Health Association, an organisation focusing on sexual reproductive health and health rights.
She believes that education can empower people to make informed choices about their sexual reproductive health needs.
The leaders will be addressed by speakers who will discuss topics such as progress and opportunity in the Asia-Pacific region, values-based leadership, and the intersection of purpose and entrepreneurship. They will also be involved in skill-building workshops, leadership development training, networking and participate in a community service project.
The Asia-Pacific programme follows the Obama Foundation’s inaugural international leaders programme launched in Africa last year.
