PAPUA New Guineans have been urged to make good use of the opportunities given to them, especially when they are awarded scholarships to study in developed countries.
A former recipient of a Japanese government-sponsored scholarship said their gains in knowledge and experience would be benefit development in PNG.
Alphonse Bare was speaking at the farewell ceremony for three students leaving for Japan on Tuesday.
He said being on an international scholarship was a new experience.
The students are Carol Damien who will be studying at the Graduate School of Human Sciences at the Osaka University, Priscilla Peter who will be studying international relations at the International University of Japan and Andrew Pus who will be enrol at the Hiroshima University.
Damien and Andrew will leave next month. Peter will leave for Japan in September.
Bare wished them well in their studies and urged the two women and man to be good ambassadors for PNG.
He reminded them to embrace the new culture and its people “as we could learn a lot from their way of life to improve our own”.
