The National – Monday, August 8th 2011

WE read about our police abusing their power by terrorising innocent civilians without fail every week.

Sometimes we read about unlawful deaths but mostly about destruction of properties and people being bashed.

Police are supposed to provide security and protection, maintain law and order, and keep our properties safe. Instead, the opposite is happening.

There is a chronic disrespect for the law by the officers who swore to uphold law and order.

This appalling trend must be strongly condemned.

These acts of intimidation cannot be tolerated.

Respect for the law will only eventuate when lawmakers and enforcers start practising what they preach.

An appropriate way would be for the RPNGC to conduct awareness in schools and community on freedom and responsibilities of the citizens.

The police need to understand the people’s views and win back their respect for the rule of law.

There is absolutely no freedom without law.

Where is justice?
