MAINTAINING a good relationship with the media is vital when disseminating important and useful information to the community.

National Capital District metropolitan commander Supt Andy Bawa said that when presenting a certificate of appreciation to The National’s acting editor-in-chief Pama Anio yesterday.

“We believe that maintaining a good relationship with media partners is very important and vital in what we do, especially in disseminating very important information to the community,” Bawa said.

“We can’t do much without the media, we need to involve the media and strengthen the relationship that we have established over the years,” he said.

A letter of thank you and a certificate of appreciation, especially for 2013, including Christmas and New Year period, was presented to the newspaper which was a first appreciation from the police.

“But I felt that it is important that we acknowledge The National and I hope that this will show our appreciation to this paper,” Bawa said.

Anio said The National strived to put positive news without trying to dramatise or sensationalise news.

“We like to report on issues and put a lot of emphasis on human interest stories, our news is about people,” Anio said.

He said it was part of the company’s policy not to sell but to educate people in that way The National could help police by educating

people. “And, we hope The National and police can continue with the relationship.”
