EXCITING Moore Printing University Tigers outclassed Remington Gordon Kokofas by 30 points to claim their fifth Port Moresby AFL BSP premiership trophy in an enthralling grand final match at Amini Park on Saturday.
The Tigers won the match 8.8 (56) to 3.8 (26).
The Kokofas led by five points at quarter time after two goals from Brendon Beno and three behinds from Caleb Ila and Australian Gary Johnson.
But the tide turned in the second quarter with young ruckman Clyde Pulah – later named the man-of-the-match – dominating the duels, the Tigers clicked into action and booted 2.2 to the Kokofas 1.0 to establish a three-point lead at half-time 3.6 (24) to 3.3 (21).
In the third quarter, the Tigers burst out of the blocks again and booted two goals and a behind while restricting the Kokofas to just four behinds.
The Kokofas looked lost with trumph card Lailai Ila out with ankle injury and Steven Ila also sidelined.
With Ali Pinda, Paul Philip, John Vincent and Peter Milaura completely shut out of the game, the Tigers’ youngsters such as Jechonia Peni, Laurie Logo, John James, Max Lavai and Scott Johnson had a field day.
pinning the Kokofas in their own end.
The Tigers continued to dominate play in the final quarter booting three goals and a behind to the Kokofas single point.
The Kokofas Brendon Beno never saw much of the ball in the final quarter while the rest of the Kokofa players absolutely became mere passengers as the Tigers ran wild and snapped clear to with the match.
For the Kokofa coach Peter Davis it was the most embarrassing display of finals football by his key players to bring any respectability to the final scoreline.
For the Tigers Walter Yangomina it was a good year of mentoring that worked ruthless wonders for the Waigani Campus boys to claim their fifth title.
“It certainly was a perfect year for the boys. They have led right throughout the season and clocking it off with a premiership victory was great,” Yangomina said.
