With four rounds remaining in the Digicel Cup, competition leaders Lae Tigers and Hagen Eagles are in contention for the minor premiership.
The Tigers are on 21 points and Eagles 19, while the Enga Mioks and Agmark Gurias are longer shots for the honours on 17 and 16 points each.
The Tigers have topped the regular season the last two years, earning the minor accolade but coach Stanley Tepend said their eyes were firmly on the top prize – the Digicel Cup.
With two of the top-five all but locked, the tussle for the remaining spots will see the Gurias, Mioks, Waghi Tumbe, Hela Wigmen, Mendi Muruks and Gulf Isapea all with a chance of making the cut.
The Gurias, who have the bye this weekend, face a tough three away games against the Muruks, Wigmen and Vipers to complete their regular season.
The Tumbe have two winnable away matches in Port Moresby (Isapea) and Goroka (Lahanis). Their other two games are in Minj against the Simbu Lions and Mioks.
The Wigmen, Muruks and Isapea have one simple equation; they have to win their final four to gurarantee a shot at the very least fifth spot or at best fourth place.
Fixtures: Rd 13, Sun, July 9 – Lions vs Mioks (Wabag), Wigmen vs Lahanis (Mendi), Eagles vs Muruks (Hagen), Isapea vs Tumbe (Port Moresby),Tigers vs Vipers (Lae). Bye: Gurias.
