Tigers eye comeback

DIGICEL Cup ladder leaders Lae Tigers will aim to rebound from their first loss of the season when they host Rabaul Gurias on Sunday (3pm kick-off).
Ill-discipline saw Tigers coach Stanley Tepend lose three players to sin bins as they found themselves on the back foot against a hungrier Port Moresby Vipers outfit last Sunday.
The Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored side will want to avoid shooting themselves in the foot again as they look to dodge a second-straight loss in their round-eight home clash.
“You can’t win games with multiple sin bins,” Kumuls legend Tepend said after their 16-20 loss to the Vipers at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
“So discipline is one of the things that we really need to work on going forward.
“Our next match is against the Gurias in Lae, so we’re keen to bounce back from the loss.”
Meanwhile, despite a 32-8 win over Gulf Isou last Saturday, the Agmark-sponsored Gurias said ball security would be crucial against the 2019 champions.
“We turned over a lot of easy possession to our opponents due to poor ball security and completions,” Gurias head coach Marcus Kaugla said after the home win.
“For our next game, we need to go back to the drawing board and correct our mistakes.
“We need to improve in the match against the Tigers.”
Kaugla said with two home games remaining against the Vipers and Enga Mioks, “we need to register big wins against these two teams to secure a spot in the playoffs”.
